I believe that if you have the will, there is always a way, you just have to find it.
In 2014, our family escaped the grind in the US and moved to Germany for a better quality of life and the opportunity to explore the world together.
We had lived abroad before and knew that family life in the US was harder than it needed to be. My husband was spending hours a day commuting in traffic. He was working as a contractor and there was no paid time off. We never saw him. And even though he was working his tail off and earning okay, we just couldn’t get ahead financially, especially with the crazy healthcare costs.
On the weekends, while the baby napped, we would watch House Hunters International episodes and dream of a move to Europe and a life with universal healthcare, affordable childcare, less gun violence, sick leave, vacation time, paid holidays…
We started watching the job postings in companies we knew that had offices in Europe. Then one day the right one came up, he applied and within a few months, we were on our way to Germany.
4+ years later we are still here and I’m happy to report that the grass has been greener for us!
